Nightingale Floor

Year: 2005
Excerpt: 3:00 min demo

This project, commissioned by the Sino-Nordic Art Center in Beijing, China, is collaboration with composer Margaret Schedel. In this piece, as the performer, Alison Rootberg, moves across on the stage, both the sound and projected images change in response to her movement. This is accomplished through the use of a tracking camera suspended above the stage, which observes the dancer's position and triggers changes in the sound and the image. Following it's initial performance in Beijing in 2004, the work was presented at the International Design Media Arts Association conference in Orlando, FL, and the New Interfaces for Musical Expression conference in Vancouver, BC, as well as performances at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, CA, and the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati.
