Collaboration with poet and performance artist Enrique Aviles. This poetry video grew out of Aviles' 1998 performance El Otro Lado / The Other Side, which was presented at the Teatro de la Gente in Washington, DC and for which I created a "video set". The video looks at the experiences of recent immigrants to the US and their encounter with the "street of gold" on their arrival. The recitation by the poet is juxtaposed with images of the Adams Morgan neighborhood in Washington, DC. The tape was awarded an Honorable Mention at the 1999 Black Maria Film and Video Festival and also screened at the Dallas Video Festival and the Thaw Festival of Digital Media.
